Types of Visa in Malaysia

Employment Pass I Requirements

  • Has worked in Malaysia for a minimum of three (3) consecutive years at the time of application
  • Holds a valid Employment Pass with more than 3 months validity
  • Holds a senior management position in Malaysia
  • Earns a basic monthly salary of RM15,000 which excludes any allowances and/or bonuses
  • Has made EPF contributions or income tax payment for the most recent 2 years (minimum) at the time of application
  • Total annual income declared in the 2 years tax filing needs to be taxable in Malaysia (basic salary must be more than RM180,000 per annum)
  • Holds a PhD/Master's/Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in any field from a recognized university or a professional competency certificate from a recognized professional institute
  • Possesses at least 5 years of total work experience

Employment Pass II Requirements

  • Hiring company is registered with the Expatriate Services Division (ESD)
  • Employees' Basic monthly salary is between RM 3,000 and RM 4,999
  • Maximum 1 year of valid employment

  • Spouse and Children (below 18 years old) are NOT eligible for Dependent Pass
  • Can be renewed 2 times at most (subject to review)

Dependant Pass Requirements

  • Legal spouse of an Employment Pass Holder
  • Children below 18 years old of an Employment Pass Holder
  • NOT eligible to convert to an Employment Pass
  • Must provide marriage certificate for spouse
  • Must provide birth certificates for children
  • Valid Employment Pass of main holder with minimum validity of 6 months
  • Passport with minimum validity of 12 months

  • Holds a tertiary qualification from an institution of higher learning (in any field); or
  • Holds a diploma in multimedia/ICT or another specialized ICT certification plus at least 2 years' relevant experience in multimedia/ICT or an equivalent field; or
  • Has held a professional, executive, management or technical work position in information technology ("IT") enabled services (e.g. IT / IS Professionals, Finance / Accounting, Business Administration)
  • Special exemptions are given to foreign knowledge workers who do not meet the above criteria but are to be employed in the following

NON MD

  • Holds a tertiary qualification from an institution of higher learning (in any field); or
  • Holds a diploma in multimedia/ICT or another specialized ICT certification plus at least 5 years' relevant experience in multimedia/ICT or an equivalent field; or
  • Has held a professional, executive, management or technical work position in information technology ("IT") enabled services (e.g. IT / IS Professionals, Finance / Accounting, Business Administration)
  • Salary: a MINIMUM monthly salary of RM3,000.00
  • Industry / Sector: Applicants working with companies in the ICT sector only.
  • Holds a diploma in multimedia/ICT or another specialized ICT certification plus at least 2 years’ relevant experience in multimedia/ICT or an equivalent field; or
  • Has held a professional, executive, management or technical work position in information technology (“IT”) enabled services (e.g. IT / IS Professionals, Finance / Accounting, Business Administration)
